How American Women Invented Postmodernism: 1970-1975

April 10 - June 3, 2007

Great Ladies Changing Into Butterflies, 1973 by Judy Chicago

Prismacolor, 23 x 23 inches.

The Morris Museum is proud to partner with The Feminist Art Project to present the exhibition How American Women Artists Invented Postmodernism: 1970-1975

The purpose of this exhibition is to make clear that many of the sources of Postmodernism lie in the work of Feminist artists. The Feminist Art Movement of the 1970’s introduced bold new concepts so thoroughly embedded in contemporary art that they are now taken for granted.

The exhibition, which was co-curated by Judith K. Brodsky and Dr. Ferris Olin and being traveled by Rutgers University, features works by major artists Judy Chicago, Joyce Kozloff, Diane Neumaier, Faith Ringgold, Rachel Rosenthal, Joan Semmel and June Wayne.

The Morris Museum will share this exhibition with the Hunterdon Museum of Art.

The public is invited to attend a FREE opening reception
